| The first classification
is easy. Pearls are measured in diameter
by the millimeter. Black pearls of
Polynesia generally measure between
8 and 12 mm, with an occasional pearl
as large as 13-18mm. South Seas pearls
are considered the largest pearls
found on Earth. Although the rarity
of large pearls does increase their
value, size is only one of several
factors in pearl grading. |
